She received her Doctoral degree in Sociology from Loyola University Chicago. She conducted the Community Health Needs Assessment in Chicago’s Asian Americans and played an instrumental role in bringing the first Asian-run Federally Qualified Community Health Center in the Midwest. Zhang is a strong advocate for university-community collaborations and is experienced in needs assessment research. Several programs were selected as “a model” or for excellence award. She developed an array of programs and services to meet healthcare challenges among Asian immigrants and refugees and other underserved populations. She served as PI and co-investigator on a number of research projects including a pilot study on health and safety hazards assessment among Asian homecare workers. ![]() Zhang was previously employed as Senior Research Specialist at the University of Illinois Chicago and Program Director of Community Health at Asian Human Services. She brings more than 20 years of experience in community health education, outreach, research, evaluation, and program development. Allison serves as a member of the Malcolm X Community Health Worker Program Advisory Council and is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Addictions Counselor. Allison received national recognition for her work implementing a Peer Patient Navigator model to enhance engagement and retention of HIV-Positive Women of Color in care. Prior to joining MAHA, Allison spent the last 16 years at a Cook County “one-stop” public safety-net outpatient center for the treatment, research, and prevention of infectious diseases. Allison brings extensive research and program development experience at the local and national level. Allison is a motivated and passionate dual-master’s prepared community leader with 20+ years’ public health/human services experience promoting access to healthful living for diverse and underserved communities. Liu is a member of several boards and advisory councils, including the State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) Council appointed by the Governor of Illinois, and the Chicago Community Development Advisory Council appointed by the Mayor of Chicago. ![]() She is well recognized as an advocate and community leader locally and nationally in the public health and community health field.
